On personal development, mindful productivity, creative lifestyle design, and figuring it out as you go

Hey there, Brilliant!

Hope that your May is wrapping up well. As we’re approaching the mid-year mark, I’ve been taking some time to reflect on the progress I’ve made towards my yearly goals.

The year has not gone the way I thought it would. There have been delayed projects, surprise successes, and unexpected overwhelm. I committed to chasing my own dreams over the expectations of others, and it’s been an exhausting but rewarding sprint.

The beauty of following my own path is that I can twist and turn as I see fit. I’ve learned a lot in these past 5 months, and I’m using those lessons to inform my next steps. It’s about time for a pivot, and I’m excited to share more with you soon.

Here’s to iteration and experimentation!

Spiritedly,
Ahsante

How I keep up with my friends
In my latest video, I walk through how I manage my relationships in layers. Navigating friendship in your 20's can be tough - here's how I'm making it work.
My other recent videos include what Elon Musk's potential Twitter acquisition really means for democracy, how I saved $40,000 to launch my independent creative career, and how you can better manage your life admin tasks.

The Groove
Music to keep your spirits up and let it all out

Getcha groove on! Here's the playlist of what I've been bopping to lately. Time for a vibe 🕺

Pieces of media and pop culture that I'm absolutely loving
Bushradical Builds a Cabin
This is a very relaxing, detailed, well-shot video capturing a man (Bushradical) building an off-the-grid cabin in the woods, by himself, from start to finish. His charming commentary and determined attitude kept me cheering him on. Snuggle up, settle in, and enjoy watching the process unfold.
What Liberals Misunderstand About Authoritarianism
This interview with Anne Applebaum was absolutely fascinating. I've been thinking a lot lately about how we can strengthen democracy, and this interview helped me think about it better.

The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron

A classic source of creative inspiration, I found Julia Cameron’s book to be ever relevant. While morning pages are less appealing to me as a night owl, there are thoughtful discussions on the benefits of stepping out of the studio and adding color to your day to day life. Along with being a pathway for nurturing your inner artist and designing creative rituals, this book inspired me to bring more delight into my life.
What's been keeping my productivity boosted
  • Lumecube. This handy dandy light source is my compact solution to making sure I’m well lit during video calls, even when the sun has gone down. I can mount it on a stand, or use the suction cup to mount it to the back of my monitor - so it takes up even less space.

  • F.lux. Speaking of the sun going down, it’s nice for my monitor to adjust to a warmer temperature in the evenings so that the blue light doesn’t disrupt my sleep schedule. F.lux allows me to do just that, getting warmer and dimmer as the evening progresses. Time it with sundown, adjust it manually, or, in my case, use the “disable for an hour” feature if you need color accuracy for a quick late-night video edit.
